Contents Healthy Hands is a comprehensive, upper-body conditioning program developed to improve the flexibility, strength and endurance of those at risk of developing cumulative trauma disorders or for those recuperating from an injury. Five exercise segments focus on different aspects of upper-body conditioning. Two additional segments provide information that will further reduce the risk of injury. Personalize your program based on individual needs and daily time constraints by easily choosing exercise segments on DVD. For example, you may wish to stretch daily and perform a longer program that includes strengthening 3-5 times a week as time allows. This therapy-based, low-intensity exercise and injury prevention program is ideal for those starting out, starting over, or recuperating from an injury. It complements work-site stretch programs and therapeutic home exercise programs. Safe exercise techniques, proper posture, form and breathing are emphasized throughout the program. Educational highlights are provided during each segment. Exercise Segments Segment 1 - General Warm-up 5 minutes A low-intensity, full-body warm up with emphasis on arm movements. Segment 2 - Upper Body Active Motion 3 minutes Active motion without resistance that targets specific muscle groups of the upper body. Segment 3 - Upper Body Stretching 9 minutes Stretches for the hands, arms, shoulders and neck. This segment targets the upper body muscles that generally become tight with work activity. Also covered are gentle stretches that glide the tendons and nerves in the arm. Segment 4 - Upper Body Strengthening 16 minutes A general upper body strengthening routine for all muscle groups of the upper body. This segment includes exercises for the larger muscles which stabilize the arms and help improve posture as well as the smaller muscles of the wrist and hand. Segment 5 - Core Strengthening 8 minutes Exercises to improve core stability. Improved core strength will provide better stability and endurance of muscles during arm activity. Additional Segments Segment 6 - Diaphragmatic Breathing 2 minutes Discusses the importance of using the diaphragm vs. shallow breathing and it's relationship to improving overall and hand health. Demonstrates proper technique. Segment 7 - Basic Office Ergonomics 5 minutes An overview of office ergonomics with simple and inexpensive tips and techniques that will further reduce the risk of cumulative trauma disorders. |
